Free Venues in London

We ran events connecting the global oil & gas industry with governments and education & training organisations. We have used universities / colleges in Africa, Latin America, UK, Asia and North America . Whatever the event theme/topic area is I’m sure there is a university/college that would specialise in that area and be happy to support.

I am looking for an event space for my Meetup - Entrepreneurs meeting Designers/Developers. Any suggestions ?

The Albany pub on Great Portland Street has a funky space for up to 100 people, you just have to commit to spending £300 on food and drink at the bar (for daytime events). It depends on how many attendees you’re expecting as to whether you will easily hit this target. If not, other pubs have lower minimum spends, so it’s worth ringing around.

Tried Airspace and they quoted me £150 per hour

(Paul Thistlethwaite) #25

Tried Trampery and unfortunately they also now charge corporate rates generate income for their other community ventures. They gave me some useful leads though

(Belinda Booker) #26

What type of event are you organising @Paul_Thistlethwaite ?

(Lillian Ogbogoh) #27

Hi all, I am new to the site, I know that I may not fall into a full event organiser… I am a podcast show host and I need venues for hosting the show where I interview guests.

(Belinda Booker) #28

Hey Lillian, nice to “meet” you. What facilities does the venue need to have?

(Lillian Ogbogoh) #29

Hi Belinda, same here… Stable Wifi, a table and chairs as I have a studio in a suitcase which I set up and stream from my laptop live …

Does it need to be totally quiet/private? If you’re looking for totally free venues, you can always just sit in hotel lobbies/bars. During the day, you can usually find quiet places and it’s a nice environment to host your guests, plus you can pick a hotel that’s convenient for them. I’m a journalist and I’ve often interviewed people in hotel lobbies and recorded it with my dictaphone. The recordings have always been fine for my purposes. You should give it a go :relaxed:

(Lillian Ogbogoh) #31

Hi Belinda, not totally private but because of the time of day I record makes a difference at 8 PM, the noise levels are different. If you know of a few places that are quiet in the evening I will give it a shot :relaxed:

(Belinda Booker) #32

Oh I see. Do you go out live then? Could you pre-record earlier in the day at all? Mornings are usually nice and quiet. Alternatively, you might want to think about church-owned buildings. Given the uplifting nature of your show/interviews they may well be willing to give you free use in turn for a plug.

(Nick Lawson) #33

Hey Paul any luck with those useful leads they gave you? Care to share if they were successful?

(Lillian Ogbogoh) #34

Belinda Thank you for your help, I have just found a lovely restaurant in Brixton hill with meeting space that has a cute meeting room I can use, so excited about this, just need to buy a few things to make the room less echoey and we are off and running…

(Belinda Booker) #35

That’s amazing news. Are they letting you use it for free? Which restaurant is it?

(Profit Tree) #36

Hi all, We’re running Matched-Betting Nights and are looking for an establishment to launch in, we can offer marketing campaigns to get people through the door and even reward the establishment with a fee for every person that signs up and makes money, given that that’s 100% of our members, the rewards stack up.

We’re looking for free venues that would like to see a potentially substantial return, getting involved.

Any feed-back would be great

(Belinda Booker) #37

Hi, will people be buying their own drinks at the event? There are London pubs with private rooms that can be hired with a minimum spend, many as low as £100. That way you wouldn’t need to give any of your profits away.

(Profit Tree) #38

They would, Ideally, the kind of set-up you mention is exactly what we require, where would be the best place to locate these kind of establishments?

Hello Louise

Thank you for sharing.

How did you contact them over at RBS? I can’t seem to find a point of contact for them.
