Saying hello from New Zealand :sunny: - I have more than ten years in the events industry including as a planner, entrepreneur, advisor and investor.

The highlights for me have been founding my own event tech company, ShowGizmo , which we grew to 40+ staff across five countries. I am currently the Chief Strategy Officer for EventOPS and manage the Event Tech Tribe - a consortium of global event tech suppliers.

Last year I founded the WomenInEventTech group along with Leonora Valvo and Dahlia El Gazzar, to highlight how women can dominate in the nascent event tech niche, and I was also appointed as Vice President of the Association for Women in Events.

Hi Everyone,

I’m Shweta and I work for a not-for profit organisation in Downsview Park Toronto, called Rhema Canada Inc., that offers spacious event venue spaces for Corporate and social events. I work as a Sales and Marketing Manager for these venues at The Rhema Events Center.

Hi! I’m totally new to event planning so am open to any advice the tribe can give. We have just started a life and business coaching company and I am organising a series of free 2 hour Happiness Seminars. I’m currently looking for free/ affordable venues around Lincoln, Aylesbury, Bury St Edmonds and Hampshire. I’ve been considering coffee shops which are generally closed in the evening, has anyone any experience of these as venues? We’re only expecting small groups. I’m looking forward to learning from the tribe and also sharing where I can. Sally

Hi Sally, what a great idea. Will you be ticketing the events so you have an idea of numbers? I expect coffee shop owners would be willing to work with you if you could ensure a reasonable amount of people - but don’t forget there will always be quite a high no-show rate with free events. You could charge a small ticket price to include a hot drink and that way it’s more likely those people will turn up.

I like the idea of a small charge to include a drink. I’m looking at village halls rather than coffee shops at the moment. I think this might be an easier option for a first time event organiser working to a tight deadline. I’m looking at ticketing via Eventbrite :blush:
