The Original Events Company are launching a temporary events venue - Immerse - in Highbury & Islington - opening next year and consisting of an exhibition hall with 9 x break out spaces totalling 2840 sqm. As well as hosting their own events, Immerse is available for hire and the organisers are keen to hear from anyone with ideas that may suit the space.

Wales is to get its own international convention centre, opening in the grounds of Celtic Manor Resort in Newport in June 2019.

An £83.7m joint venture between Celtic Manor Resort and Welsh Government, the ICC Wales will accommodate 5,000 delegates and include a 4,000sqm pillar-free main hall, a 1,500-seated auditorium, 12 flexible meeting rooms, a double-height glass atrium and a 2,500 sqm outdoor plaza. http://www.iccwales.com/

It will drag events away from Cardiff, Newport and even Bristol. Wales as whole wouldn’t benefit from having this venue.

Transport links play a big part in how Wales works and plays. All links run east-west, so us in north Wales see Liverpool and Manchester as the go to cities. Liverpool is known as the capital of north Wales.

I believe it will have the opposite effect because the venue will be outside the cities of Cardiff and Newport and will only benefit the owner of the Celtic Manor resort.

That would be a real shame. I got another press release today, which said they’ve already confirmed The Association of Corporate Treasurers Annual Conference and the Alzheimer’s Research UK Conference - “expected to bring in around £10 million to the local economy in South Wales.” I guess time will tell…

Gonville & Caius College has unveiled plans for a new events space right in the heart of Cambridge.
Acropolis At Caius is a 2,150 sq ft marquee structure that will be located in the attractive gardens on its West Road site, adjacent to the Cavonius Conference Centre.

The venue is named Acropolis for its intriguing architectural shape and multiple glass sides
around its linked hexagonal structures. Available from July 2019 for a 15-month period, it can accommodate up to 140 on round tables for dinner, up to 100 cabaret style and 180 theatre style.
